Job Details

Cambridgeshire is a great place to live and work. A thriving economy has led to Cambridge being named the UK's most 'vibrant' city for a sixth successive year and the area continues to be recognised nationally and internationally as one of the most forward thinking places in the UK.

At Cambridgeshire County Council we are proud to part of that story and to be recognised as an innovative and well run authority. We have a huge amount of potential in our communities, our places and our people and we have ambitious plans to make Cambridgeshire even better.

To do that, we know that we must develop different approaches and relationships - 'business as usual' won't be enough. We have great ideas on how to support people to lead the fulfilling lives that they want, doing the things that matter to them - and we are ready to invest in a fair, caring Cambridgeshire where the Council is part of a community that looks out for each other.

We have already started this journey and we are now looking for a Head of Transformation, to share and shape our vision and to lead our change teams with purpose, energy and optimism. This is a vital role for us and you'll need to have strong emotional intelligence, a deep understanding of change and a burning desire to make a positive difference to people's lives. We look for shared values and culture fit as much as experience, skills and competence when hiring and we actively seek diverse and interesting backgrounds to bring fresh insight.

You will be responsible for:

* Delivering our existing ambitious corporate strategy and transformation programme whilst informing and developing our next ambitious vision for the future;

* Helping the organisation to translate complex ideas into action;

* Designing new approaches that focus on the widest possible social and economic value;

* Navigating the complexity of the wider public sector system with all its challenges and ambiguity, using influence and excellent judgement to move things forward despite uncertainty;

* Working collaboratively and empathetically with the community to ensure outcomes are community designed and led;

* Acting as a senior advisor to Councillors and the Leadership team;

* Motivating and developing a large team of individuals with a range of backgrounds and skill sets, with a focus on both performance and potential;

* Providing clear and visible leadership which models the Council's values.

You'll be helped by:

* A capable and future looking team of change specialists who:

* Cover all elements of change from diagnosis and problem solving to working with services to make change stick;

* Work with people throughout the organisation, the wider system and communities to build an environment that drives and supports long-term change; and

* Need to feel encouraged, challenged and supported to make their best contribution.

* An organisation which:

* Welcomes diverse backgrounds, experience, skills and strengths;

* Has declared a climate emergency and is committed to change;

* Makes decisions together and owns problems collaboratively;

* Evaluates decision against past learning, wide consultation and strong research;

* Gets things done; and

* Has your back.

Cambridgeshire County Council offers excellent benefits, including the Local Government Pension Scheme and flexible working. We believe that there is a way to have an exceptionally customer focused service with a good work-life balance.

We are an inclusive, welcoming and flexible employer. If you have any questions after you have read the Job Description, or have concerns at all regarding any physical or mental health issues where you feel you are unable to meet one of the essential criteria please contact Amanda Askham on 01223 703565 for an informal conversation.

If your application is successful you will be invited to join us on 3rd or 6th December for an interview and a case study session to understand your values, approach and experience. Interviews will take place at Shire Hall in Cambridge.

Thank you for your interest.

Please note: Shire Hall will be closing around the end of 2020 and the team will be relocating to Alconbury Weald.
