Create a place our residents deserve

Although based in leafy Surrey, Runnymede is a centre for business and has a substantial property portfolio. The Council has invested imaginatively in regeneration projects as part of place shaping and improving the quality of life for our residents.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this exciting new role will actively manage the Council’s Property Investment Strategy to ensure that the Council maximises its income from its assets portfolio and creates the place our residents deserve. The successful candidate will advise the Chief Executive and Members on all aspects of property management and acquisition, and be a member of the Council’s new Strategic Leadership team. He/she will also act as Project Director of the next phase of town centre regeneration at Egham.

Candidates should possess substantial experience of developing, leading and successfully implementing commercial, investment and asset strategies to achieve desired outcomes. The ability to maximise commercial opportunities within a public sector context, liaise positively with senior managers and Elected Members and to successful manage a professional team are important qualities. Ideally RICS qualified, candidates would possess demonstrable experience of being responsible for a large, complex property portfolio.

For an informal discussion about the role contact our retained consultants at Penna: Anthony Hopkin on 07500 042 272 or Rebecca Rampat on 07739 985 332.

Company

The Borough of Runnymede is situated in north-west Surrey and includes Addlestone, New Haw, Ottershaw, Lyne, Longcross, Englefield Green, Virginia Water, the village of Thorpe and the towns of Chertsey and Egham.

The boundary tends to follow the line of the Thames and although situated close to London the area retains most of its rural character; on fine weekends the river and other public open spaces are popular attractions.

There is a large area of Windsor Great Park within the Borough and the meadows of Runnymede, which are famous because of their connection with Magna Carta. Three major memorials are adjacent to the Runnymede meadows, namely, the Magna Carta Memorial donated and maintained by the American Bar Association, and the Kennedy Memorial erected by public subscription in memory of the late President of the United States of America on land donated by the Crown; there is also the Commonwealth Air Forces Memorial which was unveiled in 1953.

Thorpe Park, Britain's first Theme Park, was opened in 1979.

Communications are good with the Borough being served by the M3 and M25 motorways. The area is located within 30 minutes of Central London by rail via Waterloo Station.

International transport links are also excellent owing to the proximity of Heathrow Airport. The Borough is predominantly residential but does have a number of light industries.
