Director of Adult Social Care and Health

Employer
Cheshire West & Chester
Location
Cheshire
Salary
Up to £98,403
Closing date
15 Nov 2019

Cheshire West and Chester is a thriving borough with real strengths: a strong and growing economy, vibrant towns and villages, good standards of education and skills, and a track record of innovative public services. However, like many other local authorities we also face significant challenges including unprecedented funding reductions for local services, pressure on housing, greater demands on social care and health, and areas of the borough which remain significantly disadvantaged. Nonetheless, we have the ambition and (most importantly) the staff to tackle these issues and make a huge and positive impact on the lives of our residents.

We are currently seeking a Director of Adult Social Care and Health to work with Members, colleagues and partners to ensure that our most vulnerable adults and older people get appropriate, targeted and high quality support. Managing about 500 staff and reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Executive for People, our new Director will focus on a number of issues including maintaining the high quality of front-line practice, managing demand, ensuring our in house provision is cost effective, and bolstering retainment and recruitment. It is a key role for the council with a far-reaching impact, and you will get the full support of senior officers and Members.

A social work qualification is desirable, however evidence of senior operational experience across social care/ health is equally important. We are looking for ambitious people with significant senior experience of managing a relevant range of services in a local government context. Above all, you will be a determined and enabling leader, with a good political antennae and the skills to develop strong and productive relationships across the borough.
