Gateshead Council has an enviable reputation as a stable and well-run authority.  We also know it’s a great place to live and work, indeed The Guardian’s ‘Best places to live rankings’ place Newcastle Gateshead at number one in the UK.  We have ambitious plans to make the borough even better.

Over the next 20 years we are looking to continue to transform Gateshead.  We have a huge amount of potential in terms of our regeneration and development plans, but we are also aware of the need to develop a very different approach if we are to truly meet the challenges ahead and respond to the fast-changing needs of our communities and businesses.

In essence - we need to become more responsive, proactive and flexible – and ‘business as usual’ simply won’t cut it anymore.  That is why we have introduced a new senior management structure, but more importantly a new culture based upon our Thrive agenda which focuses on delivery and outcomes – to the direct benefit of our residents.  A vital part of our transformation journey is the recruitment of a Deputy Strategic Director for Children’s Social Care who will play a crucial role in the council’s next chapter.

We are already a ‘good’ authority in Ofsted terms, but we want to be ‘outstanding’.  All the building blocks are in place, but we need to ensure we have the appropriate rigour and grip over front line practice as well as budgets.   You will have senior experience in children’s social care as an Assistant Director or head of service, with a relentless focus on outcomes and quality and the ability to inspire partners and colleagues, as we strive for excellence.  Closing date:
