We’ve got big plans for Somerset. It’s a beautiful and vibrant place and we’re ambitious about how it can grow. Our vision is focused on improving lives through innovative services that create a thriving and productive County, resilient and compassionate communities, successful partnerships, and support to those who need it most.

To underpin this vision we have taken, head on, the challenge of balancing our budgets whilst improving services. Councillors and officers have made some difficult choices as we know that we need to continue to improve and innovate whilst living within our financial means. Based on our reframed finances, we have realistic and exciting plans for designing and delivering our services.

We’re seeing our social care services emerging as national trail blazers, including fantastic work with our residents, partners and communities. You will have seen us on Panorama, leading the national debate on social care funding and showcasing our teams. Relationships with partners are strong and producing positive results.

Reporting to the Chief Executive as the Authority’s DASS, you will have already worked in a senior adult social care role, as DASS or Deputy, and be able to slot in to a dynamic and creative Senior Leadership Team. You’ll be in the thick of it when it comes to delivering priorities across our system, working with our Chief Executive, Directors, Elected Members and teams.

Somerset is a fantastic place to live and work - home to Exmoor National Park and a whole host of beautiful landscapes, towns and villages. We really believe this is a great opportunity in an exciting organisation and we’d be delighted to give the right candidate a warm Somerset welcome.
