Location: Leicestershire County Council, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire, LE3 8RB

Leicestershire County Council is a forward looking and dynamic local authority with an ambition to deliver better quality services at lower cost. We are constantly challenging the ways that we think, work and deliver our services.

The council is also fortunate to own and manage a range of country parks and open spaces which contain some of the county’s finest natural habitats and landscapes. We are developing a strategy to maintain, protect and develop our natural landscapes to tackle climate change, promote biodiversity and support ecology and the environment. Our aim is to ensure that the land is managed effectively to enhance its nature, conservation, habitat management, historic and amenity value.

We are now looking to recruit someone who will provide leadership and effective overall management of the Leicestershire County Council, Country Parks service and who will deliver and execute this strategy.

However, we have ambitions to do so much more with our parks! We are looking to develop our parks to become places where individuals, communities and partners all wish to play a role and belong.

Most significantly we are keen to develop our parks as destinations to generate revenue which can then be used to ensure that the parks are economically sustainable and continue to provide services to todays and future generations.

What other qualities we are looking for?

  • Demonstrable entrepreneurial flair.
  • An ability to commercialise the service
  • An ability to develop a business strategy and plan to increase visitors and maximise income
  • A track record of event planning and management.

This is not a job for the faint hearted but an opportunity for someone who can combine energy, drive and commercial acumen with a passion for public service and the outdoors.

Exceptional candidates with demonstrable equivalent experience in a relevant large scale and customer service orientated environment will be considered.

We particularly welcome applicants from black, minority, ethnic (BME) communities, disabled people and lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities, as they are currently under represented within our workforce.
