This exciting role offers a once-in-a-career opportunity to work in the leadership team of an organisation that’s changing on an unprecedented scale, and at an unprecedented pace. Service transformation and new ways of working are going on everywhere you look, and we can’t just take a year off ‘business as usual’ to complete it – the old saying about ‘replacing the wings while the plane’s in the air’ is an accurate metaphor in our case. But that’s what’s so hugely exciting about being a key part of the Surrey leadership team making it happen, as we drive to deliver the Community Vision for 2030.

Working closely with the Chief Executive, Leader and Executive Directors, your background will have given you a practical understanding, probably in a public service context, of how the best organisations transform and thrive; and you’ll be seeking a share of the responsibility for delivering improvement and impact at both an organisation and place-wide level. There’s no typical day: you could be dealing with complex issues in health integration and SEND before lunch, followed by sessions on business planning or our new Digital strategy and Fire and Rescue Service improvement before attending a Cabinet meeting at 2pm.

A rare combination of strategist, planner, negotiator, doer and fixer, you’ll be comfortable and credible working across and at all levels in the Council and with our partners, and in making high-level decisions. Approachable, open-minded, confident, challenging and curious, you’ll also bring discipline, patience, tenacity and a tangible hunger for making long-lasting change. Like us, you’re not one for an easy life; and in harmony with us, the daily reward of making important things better will be music to your ears.

Visit www.surrey-cos.co.uk to find out more, or for an informal discussion please call Terry McDougall at Solace in Business on 020 7976 3311.

Closing date: 9 September 2019.
