This is an exciting time for the Council’s planning function. The autumn will see the Council start consultations on a new Local Plan developed in partnership with Stoke on Trent City Council. Additionally, the Council will be embarking on a range of house building initiatives and the planning function will play a vital role in shaping how the organisation reaches its growth objectives. You will arrive and need to add value quickly to a range of pivotal projects including the master planning for Kidsgrove and working with Staffordshire County Council on master plans to maximise the use of land to transform vacant properties into new residential and commercial opportunities.

The successful applicant will join a talented team that want exposure to exciting and challenging work; a team that has a thirst for doing things in different ways and has the potential to be a leading planning function. The new Head of Planning and Development will have the opportunity to shape the planning function to ensure it is structured to maximise its potential and support the organisation in a modern and proactive way. You will have the freedom to redesign recruitment and retention strategies to ensure the function is resourced correctly to meet demand and is offering staff the development opportunities to further their careers.

The role requires someone who can evidence having worked in a high performing planning function and holds a membership to a relevant professional qualification. You will need to demonstrate that you have led a customer focused, cost effective service and possess strong leadership skills.

The Head of Planning and Development will work closely alongside the new Executive Director of Economic Growth and Development and have regular interactions with Council Members.
