Here in Stroud district, we’re achieving more each day. We’re the best performing council for recycling in the South West and have just won a National Recycling Award for sending the least amount of waste to landfill of any local authority. We are adding to our council housing stock and delivering around 120 affordable homes every year. We were the first carbon neutral council in Europe and have committed to achieving a carbon neutral district by 2030. Our award winning canal restoration scheme is breaking new ground. We’ve set out clear priorities for the future in our Corporate Delivery Plan and are working on an action plan to respond to our recent LGA Corporate Peer Challenge, which identified the Council’s potential as an exemplar leader of place. You’ll help deliver our priorities and actions by working as part of a strong corporate team to lead the Council, working closely with the Chief Executive and elected Members.

You’ll also lead vital services. Your teams will include Finance, Legal and HR – areas which ensure that the wider Council is enabled to function at its best. You will also build teams to help set direction, such as Corporate Policy and Governance, and you’ll have the chance to translate thinking into action.

You’ll inspire all your teams to perform outstandingly and encourage collaboration Council-wide. The ability to explain complex information in simple terms and influence will definitely be key. Where possible, you’ll also drive efficiency and help identify opportunities for income generation, so we can make the most of all our assets and provide value for money.

There’s so much potential in our area and you’ll see all the possibilities. A skilled senior manager, you’ll have impressive strategic vision and motivation to match. You’ve built your expertise working in at least two of your service areas and developed good knowledge of budgets, programme delivery and local government policy. Now you’re ready to make your mark – and you’ll do it through collaboration and by championing a One Team culture.
