Job Details

Beside the sea.

Beyond expectations.

Stunning. Historic. Vibrant: no wonder Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) have attracted visitors for hundreds of years. As we enter our third month as one of the UK’s largest unitary authorities, we’re determined to make this amazing coastal area an even more incredible place. As Director of Destination & Culture, you’ll lead exciting developments that will boost the local economy and enhance our exceptional culture and heritage. Through you, this will become a world-class destination.

Adopting a multi-faced strategy encompassing cultural development, innovative marketing and outstanding sector development, you’ll grow the visitor economy for our new city region. Taking charge of services such as libraries, sports and events, you’ll create a sense of place and improve economic, social and physical wellbeing. You’ll also maximise adults’ learning opportunities through our skills and learning service. And as the area changes, you’ll make sure people know. You’ll champion BCP, raising its profile as highly desirable destination, not just nationally, but on the international stage.

To deliver our vision, you will need a deep understanding of tourism and leisure services. You’ll have led innovative, high-profile projects before across a range of areas and built substantial experience in service management on a strategic and operational level. You’ll also bring a relevant degree and professional qualification (or equivalent). But above all, you’ll bring ambition and belief in our vision.

Company

At Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council we want to create a place of aspiration where plans are made and ambitions are achieved. A place that continues to compete on an international stage – a place that rivals the iconic coastal economies elsewhere in Europe and further afield.

A healthy and vibrant place where people can live independently and everyone feels a part of the future BCP Council is trying to create. We have some ambitious priorities which our Chief Executive will support and lead us to achieve:

•    Prioritise the development of a 21st Century City by the sea
•    Support the development of the digital and knowledge economies and promote inward investment
•    Develop an arts and cultural offer with a regional and national appeal
•    Prioritise housing development that supports economic growth and meets local needs
•    Prioritise the improvement of transport links to London and the South East
•    Centralise the delivery of public services in modern facilities
•    Work with higher education providers to drive large scale investment in skills
