Are you passionate about getting it right for children and young people with additional needs?

If so, then come to Waltham Forest!

Waltham Forest’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Service has made good progress over the last year, evidenced by Ofsted and CQC, in their recent re-visit. Passionate about delivering good outcomes for vulnerable children and families, we are efficient and effective in ensuring we meet statutory deadlines for assessments and for quality assuring our EHCPs and the services we offer to children and young people, their families and schools. Our ‘Think Family’ approach is highly regarded and we work in positive partnerships with our health, social care and voluntary sector partners, our schools, early years settings and colleges. Our maintained schools are all good or outstanding and we have a broad range of specialist provision to meet a variety of needs.

This is a unique opportunity for an aspiring and successful SEND Leader to move to a new level in a high performing authority where the leadership is outstanding and where there is a high level of both corporate and political support for the work in SEND.

The post will be based in the Homes and Families Directorate, reporting to the Director of Learning and Systems Leadership and will be part of a forward-looking, experienced and supportive senior leadership team.

You will need to be a dynamic, experienced and capable leader, able to maintain and build on our excellent quality standards and our very positive relationship with our partners. As Assistant Director you will make a direct contribution to the leadership of the Learning and Systems Leadership team. You will also work closely with the council’s Deputy Chief Executive and her senior management team and will be instrumental in supporting the council’s vision of  Waltham Forest’s Think Family approach and our commitment to building the resilience of communities, families and children.
