Job Details

In Greater Manchester we have been setting the English devolution agenda – taking on new powers and responsibilities, developing a far reaching and ambitious strategic plan, and working collaboratively with government and partners to achieve our aims.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority is at the heart of this. Our Mayor and ten council leaders have responsibility for more devolved powers than any other place, including fire, waste, police and crime, transport, health and economic growth. GMCA’s purpose is to shape and enable the city region to deliver on its shared ambition, which is to make Greater Manchester one of the best places in the world to grow up, get on and grow old. We have brought together many skilled and talented teams and individuals, with a large range of disciplines and knowledge, to ensure GM delivers on these devolved powers. We are a pioneer in the public sector.

We are currently looking to recruit a new Treasurer, who will be the statutory section 73 officer for the CA (equivalent to a S151) and oversee our large revenue and capital budgets. Managing a team who cover our finance, audit and procurement functions, the Treasurer will report to the chief executive but also work closely with the Mayor as well as the senior officers and Members from the 10 authorities in GM. In addition, your networks will include central government, other Combined Authorities, the health sector and numerous other agencies and bodies.

This is a role like no other. It is huge in scope, complex and challenging – but it is also one of the most exciting finance jobs in the country. You will be at the heart of what is a ground breaking and far reaching devolution agenda, developing new ways of working and helping to ensure that our diverse communities thrive. Candidates will need to have senior finance experience in a local government setting, as well as the skills and credibility to form excellent relationships with a wide array of stakeholders and the drive and determination to make a real difference across Greater Manchester.

For more information please see www.gmca-leadership.com or contact our advising consultant Luke Judd on 0113 205 6077.
