Business Manager - Town Centre Development

Employer
Newark & Sherwood District Council
Location
Sherwood, Nottingham
Salary
£39,782 to £41,675 per annum
Closing date
6 May 2019

The Role

Newark and Sherwood District is home to multiple town and local centres, notably Newark (the sub-regional centre), Southwell, Ollerton, and Edwinstowe. The centres provide a hub for the shopping, business, residential, leisure, and in some cases tourism needs of their catchments.  Tourism provides a key footfall, from Sherwood Forest and the home of Robin Hood, to the Southwell Minster, to Newark Castle, Newark Market Place, and National Civic War Centre.

Town centres across the District are not immune to ongoing challenges nationally in terms of declining retailing, vacancies, and retaining footfall, activity, and vibrancy. However, the District is well placed to capitalise on its unparalleled heritage, culture, natural setting, and independent-led retail offer to provide town centres fit for future generations. This post forms part of a new focus and priority on town centres, particularly in the case of Newark.

You will demonstrate a track record of leading and communicating with a range of partners in delivering transformational physical, social, and economic regeneration within a town centre context. The role will include managing and commissioning feasibility and viability studies and development of funding opportunities to strengthen the town centre. Effective relationships with local businesses, landlords, agents and other stakeholders will be essential in building credibility, engagement, and in coordinating key messages and information.

The Council promotes a culture of flexible / agile working and we are happy to discuss suggestions as to how the responsibilities of this role can be met through a flexible approach to hours and / or location.
