At Cheshire East Council we are working for a brighter future – together, and our commitment to you is that our workplace culture will provide a shared purpose, be well-led, with valued people succeeding together as one team and one council, to deliver the best service for our customers and communities.

Join us, as we take the next step in our journey as we build a brighter future together. As Head of Legal Services, you’ll be responsible for leading our legal department to provide a professional service to support and enable the Council to deliver great services to our residents.  The role will focus on managing our Legal Services teams to deliver excellent legal advice and guidance on a wide range of contractual, commercial, regulatory and employment matters, together with adult and children’s safeguarding issues.

Reporting to the Director of Governance & Compliance, you will support the democratic decision-making process across the Council by identifying the legal implications of Cabinet and Council decisions.  As Deputy Monitoring Officer, you will also play an important statutory role in the Council’s governance framework.  Your professional advice will guide managers to make decisions with a clear understanding of the legal risk and implications, whilst supporting innovation, pace and service improvement.

As a qualified solicitor or barrister, you’ll bring a good balance of commercial and local authority understanding and experience. With this background, you’ll know how to deliver effective governance and compliance frameworks through professionally qualified teams. Your expert leadership skills will be backed up by in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and an understanding of key issues. With integrity, dedication and excellent legal expertise, you’ll enable us to deliver excellent services across Cheshire East.

We’re committed to “working for a brighter future together” – and we expect you to be too. Through teamwork, we’re creating a better Cheshire East for all. If you have the ambition, passion and drive, share your expertise with us and we will provide you with the opportunity to influence, develop and grow with an exceptional team.
