This is a business-critical role, within Hampshire County Council’s Children’s Services Department, which comes with a far reaching and challenging remit.
We have a strong reputation as a top performing Children’s Services Authority. For more than ten years Ofsted has consistently judged that we are good, with outstanding leadership and management.
It is an exciting time to join us as we are embarked on a journey of transformation towards a more streamlined level of service that will bring greater levels of efficiency without compromising our exacting high standards. Your role will be key in our drive to be an outstanding Children’s Services Authority across the board.
Working closely with senior colleagues to collectively lead the Department, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, leadership and oversight of all the resources that are vital to the Department’s ability to deliver top quality children’s services, leading to positive outcomes for children and young people.
The successful candidate will also have a key role in ensuring that our work with external partners and our work within the County Council is joined up, business focused and achieving departmental and corporate goals.
Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading and decision making that generates high levels of efficiency and productivity. Having good interpersonal and diplomacy skills, they will need to be astute, an intelligent negotiator and possess a high degree of business acumen.
The scale of the task is substantial. Hampshire is the third largest shire county in England, which means that our Children’s Services Department provides support to over 500 schools, educating around 175,000 pupils, as well as dealing with over 140,000 safeguarding calls and looking after more than 1,500 children and young people in care.
