Director of Violence Reduction Unit
Violent crime destroys lives. It is an epidemic that is blighting our streets; tackling violent crime in the capital is a key priority for the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. Like any epidemic, short term approaches may stop the spread, but they must be matched with long term approaches that address the causes of violent crime and focus on prevention. This so called “public health” approach is already proving successful, and has been credited with halving the murder rate in Glasgow between 2004 and 2017.
That is why we are working with colleagues across the public, community and voluntary sectors to establish a Violence Reduction Unit for London. As the Unit’s first Director you will lead its establishment, developing in partnership a long term strategy that tackles violence in the capital. You will be given the opportunity to implement a public health approach to violence on an unprecedented scale. Succeed and you will have helped shape a sustainable response that radically reduces violence, saves lives and keeps families together.
This is a high profile programme with considerable stakeholder management requirements so you must be able to inspire organisational and behavioural change across a wide range of stakeholders. You will bring a natural ability to empathise with those on the front lines dealing with violence, and with the communities with which they work. Experienced in operational delivery and in leading large programmes in multi-agency environments, you will be able to evidence effective delivery against complex, long-term objectives, acting corporately across a London partnership.
