The Role

We are looking for three Social Workers who want to make a difference in the lives of young people to join a Looked After Children Team. As well as being a dynamic and emotionally literate social worker, you will have experience in addressing the vulnerabilities of young people who have complex emotional and behavioural needs. You will take responsibility for a wide range of cases including court proceedings.

The Looked After Children's Team is part of an integrated Looked After Children and Care Leavers service comprising a virtual Looked After Children Academy, a specialist health team and targeted CAMHS provision.

The role allows for the development of practice skills and knowledge in promoting emotional resilience, child care planning (from entry into care through to the formulation of permanency plans) direct work with children and parents, addressing substance use in young people and adults, life-story work with young people who are being adopted or are in the care system long term, undertaking parenting assessment in court proceedings. This list is not exhaustive.

We take pride in getting it right first time and you will obtain training and the support you deserve to help you deliver for this already first-rate service from day one. If you have the commitment, drive and ability to deliver high service standards across the borough then you are the person we are looking for.

We are recruiting for two permanent posts and one fixed term post for 12 months.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

The successful candidate will have experience in designing and implementing care/protection plans in complex situations. This involves skills in investigative assessment as well as ‘relationship-based’ and ‘task centred’ approaches to developing needs-led care packages.

Acting in the role of ‘corporate parent’ is highly responsible and this requires skills in sensitively engaging and building relationships with young people and their families. Alongside the emotionally intelligent aspects of the role adhering to statutory duties to Looked After Children is a central component. You will maintain case files, records of clinical consultations, contemporaneous notes of visits, interviews and telephone conversations in addition to the completion of appropriate forms and documents, reviews and correspondence according to Departmental Codes of Practice.

It is essential that you possess a Diploma in Social Work, or equivalent qualification alongside current HCPC registration.
