Since the launch of our City Centre Master Plan in 2012, we have secured over £1.9 billion of new investment into the city, unemployment has been cut to just 1.5%, and over 4,000 new homes have been built or have planning consent. In just five years we have cemented our position as the economic powerhouse of the south coast and created new training and job opportunities for over 10,000 residents. We are expanding our Economic Development and Skills team to further drive this programme of growth, investment and improvement and wish to recruit talented and experienced individuals to play key roles in taking forward a number of exciting projects.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Economic Development Officer to join the Economic Development and Skills team in Southampton City Council.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in building City Council relationships with the business community and supporting business start-up and growth.  Southampton has a diverse and vibrant business community and we want to capitalise on this energy to develop micro and start-up businesses.

You will work as part of a small economic development team, initiating and managing a varied range of small scale projects and programmes to support the growth of SMEs. This will involve seeking new opportunities, applying for funding and working with partner agencies.

You will have experience of working in a business related field and have some project management and delivery experience. You will also be able to demonstrate relevant experience of delivering Economic Development outcomes.

To be successful in the role you will hold a Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area, with excellent communication skills both orally and in writing and be computer literate in use of Microsoft office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
