This is a great opportunity to be part of a successful school-led approach. In Oxfordshire, there’s a broad mix of school types, ranging from maintained and free schools, to academies and private institutions.

The Authority is proud to have good relationships with these schools – and you’ll need to draw on these partnerships in this key strategic role.

Your focus will be inclusion and children missing out on education.

To make an impact, you’ll need a vision that overcomes barriers to learning and proposes aspirational schooling options.

It must prevent exclusion through attendance management and early intervention services – so close links with social and healthcare services will be absolutely vital. For those who have already been excluded, we need to plan and commission alternative provision.

You’ll also concentrate on elective home education and the travelling community, making sure that there’s monitoring and support in place for potentially vulnerable pupils.

Much depends on your ability to create sound strategic plans and give our services direction.

And naturally, you’ll need to make the most of the High Needs block budget.

A degree-educated senior leader, you’re an expert on inclusion. You bring a track record of driving permanent exclusions down and specialist knowledge of your field.

This covers the exclusion agenda, funding streams and the legal implications and processes. And you’re adept at bringing together partners to achieve lasting, positive change.

With a management qualification and budget management skills too, you’ll be a strategic thinker who can lead our dedicated teams. But what really matters here is vulnerable learners and their educational needs.

It’s all about challenging resistance to inclusion at each and every level.
