This year, Blackburn with Darwen is celebrating 20 years since becoming a unitary authority and we have built an enviable reputation for service excellence, innovation and sound resource management.

Our people services have a proud record of achievement supporting adults, children and communities in the borough, with a particular focus on the most deprived or vulnerable. We do this by promoting independence, health, wellbeing and through safeguarding from harm.

This is an exciting time to join Blackburn with Darwen and we are currently seeking a number of Heads of Service following a recent review of management roles.

In children’s services, we are very proud of our ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement in 2017 which recognised our ability to support all children and young people in the borough, with a particular focus on the most deprived or vulnerable.

We are currently recruiting to a new Director of Children’s Services and Education and we are positive about our future, with clear and ambitious plans, supported by a stable and highly collaborative senior management team.

We pride ourselves on building good networks and working relationships and these roles will also work with health colleagues across Lancashire and help the council shape it’s relationships as part of the Sustainable Transformation Plan.

This role will be responsible for statutory service areas for children and families in need of support or protection including safeguarding, children in need, fostering, adoption and looked after children.

This role will also lead on strategy, planning and service development of an integrated children’s, health and social care offer.

We are therefore looking for someone with a Social Worker qualification and with experience of review and protection services, you will work closely with the Strategic Head of Social Work and the main focus will be achieving permanence for children in our care.

You will provide the strategic direction for social care and early intervention services to children and ensure our most vulnerable children and young people are safe and their life chances and choices are maximised.
