Full time

As a Council, we prioritise our responsibilities for children, young people, their families and carers.  We are working to strengthen families, to enable them to identify their own solutions where there are difficulties, creating strong family networks and effective safety plans as the fundamentals to the protection and care of children.  We are lucky enough to be one of the ‘English Innovation Partnership’ (EIP) authorities, sponsored by the Department for Education as we implement Signs of Safety, using it to strengthen professional practice and improve the long term outcomes for families and children. Relationships are at the centre of social work here in Bexley, and practitioners want to come and be part of what we are trying to deliver.

Bexley is playing a key role in helping London to grow sustainably and, in the years ahead, our residents will benefit from the opportunities this brings, including a better quality of life, improved wellbeing and efficient local services and facilities.

We are looking to recruit a Head of Service for Professional Standards & Quality, Workforce Development.  It is an exciting time to join our Children’s Services with a strong leadership team taking us through our improvement journey.

You will lead the development of our talent management programme alongside the delivery of a comprehensive range of training opportunities and professional development pathways.  You will have the opportunity to be creative and try out new ideas.  Our ambition and a key priority is that every member of staff at whatever stage in their career will advocate that they have had the best possible experience in relation to their professional development and in achieving their career pathway.

As Principal Child & Family Social Worker you will be qualified (recognised by the HCPC) with statutory experience.  You will have lead responsibility for ensuring that all children’s social work services are consistently applying high standards of social work practice and develop and implement plans and procedures which will seek continuous improvement and better meet the needs of our children and their families.

Your energy, professional approach and high standards will enable you to forge strong and meaningful partnerships, exert influence and help lead the way in delivering our aim to build a safe, happy, healthy and successful future for all our children and young people in Bexley.

We have a significantly high number of permanent workers, with around 80% of our staff permanently committed to us – and that number continues to grow! We offer great pay and incentives, excellent training and a great place to live.

We are a London Borough based in the south east of London. With direct and easy access into central London, we also have the advantage of being on the borders of Kent with easy access to the Kent coast and the continent.

Our offer:

  • An excellent working environment at our fantastic new offices
  • Opportunities for flexible working with excellent ICT facilities
  • Relocation Expenses up to £8,000
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
