Adult Social Care (ASC) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, skilled and experienced social work practitioner. As a key member of senior management within ASC, the Principal Social Worker’s (PSW), role is to provide professional leadership, advice, guidance and support to Social Workers across Adult Social Care and Mental health.
The PSW will provide independent scrutiny of social work practice and standards; and ensure that the views and experiences of adults, their families and carers (and practitioners), inform service planning and delivery.
“Supporting people, connecting communities” is the Council’s ambitious strategic plan for older and disabled people living and ageing well in Camden, through which we will be adopting a strengths based approach to supporting our service users.
The PSW will play a critical role in supporting practitioners adopt this way of working, using learning to develop better ways of working to ultimately remove inefficiencies and deliver better outcomes for service users.
The PSW will be the operational lead for all Safeguarding activity, including DoLs and Best Interest Assessments within ASC and having ultimate responsibility for the smooth running of the Safeguarding Adults Board.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.
As ‘lead manager’ for adult social work practice and a member of the ASC Senior Management Team, the post requires significant and broad experience in social work (adults) and in managing others’ performance and practice development.
You will have experience of working in a multi agency environment.
You will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and mentor social work and social care practitioners.
It is essential you have the ability to take responsibility for own work, consistently achieving and delivering to time, and quality, despite tight timescales and conflicting priorities.
You will build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally, to ensure a high quality service is delivered.
You will have an awareness and understanding of the complexities of operating in a multi-disciplinary setting and will able to focus on internal and external stakeholders, be innovative and creative, open to ideas and challenge, and committed to individual learning and development.
Post holders must have a valid HCPC registration and Social Work qualification.
