Looking after our region’s children is as important to us as ever. However, we’re approaching the challenge innovatively, with the establishment of a new independent Trust.

This means you’ll have a unique role as the Council’s Director of Children’s Services – one where you’ll focus on strategic leadership and commissioning, borough-wide partnership and improving educational attainment.

Our determination to give children the best start in life is driving major developments in Sandwell.

Through our Children’s Centres, we’re providing Early Years education and encouraging physical activity. Meanwhile, we’re ensuring that more children enter nursery education by broadening the eligibility criteria for parents.

And by building parenting skills, we’re helping parents understand their child’s development better.

These and other measures are having a tangible impact: the percentage of children achieving the ‘National Good Level of Development’ has grown from 52% to 71% in the last four years.

With flexible and part-time working an option this role provides the opportunity for experienced strategic leaders to be part of the team that will deliver significant improvements for children and young people in Sandwell by working in partnership with others with the same focus and goal.

We think this post requires three days per week, however we are keen to discuss this with you to seek your views.

Should you wish to discuss this and the role with our Chief Executive, Jan Britton please contact his team on 0121 569 3500 and they will be happy to facilitate this.
