Westminster Council is seeking enthusiastic candidates to manage the busy and exciting Democratic Services team. The post holder will be responsible for providing professional support to all Members of the Council, with a particular responsibility for the Members of Cabinet. The post holder will directly line manage the team of Democratic Services Officers, ensuring efficient and effective resourcing and administrative support to full Council and the Cabinet and Member level decision making. The post holder will also be responsible for supporting a variety of Council Committees and Panels, Education Admission and Exclusion Appeals and outside body appointments, and the Council’s grants to voluntary organisations scheme.

The ideal candidate should have a comprehensive knowledge of local government, including governance structures and decision-making processes; demonstrate excellent communication and research skills; be able to manage and motivate staff; and have the ability to work to tight deadlines and monitor progress. The post holder will also need to demonstrate a full understanding of the importance of political sensitivity.

A working knowledge of the Modern.gov committee management system and an understanding of legislation and processes related to Information Governance, Data Protection and Freedom of Information would be an advantage.

This is a politically restricted post in accordance with Section 1 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

The closing date for applications is 23rd February 2018.

Interviews are planned for mid March.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the current post holder before his retirement later this year.  It is expected that the successful candidate is likely to commence their duties in July but the start date is negotiable.
