Powys needs you!!

Powys is a county of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of mid Wales.

We have historic market towns and vibrant, friendly rural communities – it is a most wonderful place to grow up, live, raise families and work.

We won’t beat about the bush – we also have our challenges as our most recent Children’s Services inspection review shows.

Powys County Council and its partners are determined to work together to make Powys a better place to Start Well, Live Well and Age Well. We are also committed to delivering our responsibilities under the Health and Care Strategy with Powys Teaching Health Board, working with our partner organisations, volunteers, communities and third sector.

We have an ambitious vision and improvement plans which will deliver outstanding services to our young people and adults, and transform and strengthen our workforce. We intend to make Powys a better county for all of our communities.

This will be delivered not just through focused services, but by developing our economy, building sustainable communities, improving access to services, designing and delivering innovative services through partnerships with other organisations.

We are excited about the future.

We are looking for an inspirational leader who will continue to shape and deliver our vision over the short and long term.

As our next Director of Social Services, you will be accountable for delivering across Children’s and Adults services:

• Professional Leadership

• Service transformation

• A high performing community of professionals

• A relentless focus on service improvement and quality.

You will be a strategic thinker, used to working at operational level and able to understand the challenges that teams on the ground face.

You will have a track record in building strong leadership capability and capacity under you. You can demonstrate how you have built teams who are skilled at delivering excellence in practice, adept at identifying innovative ways of delivering services to geographically dispersed communities, and resilient enough to overcoming barriers.

Fundamentally, you will be passionate about public services and are committed to delivering services that are fit for the 21st Century.

As the Director of Social Services, you are at the heart of transforming our broader Council by working with the Cabinet and Members, and you will be an integral part of our Senior Management Team.

If you love a challenge, share our passion for ensuring that our communities fulfil their potential, and have the vision and determination to drive and lead this critical team, we want to hear from you.

This is a full time permanent role, salary for the role of Director of Social Care - up to £104,992 p.a. With additional package to be discussed on application.
