We’re looking to hire a new Deputy Director of Waste Regulation to be the strategic lead for the Agency in this area and to ensure that waste is minimised and any produced is managed effectively for our environment and economy, while reducing criminal activity in the sector .

About the role

The role of this Deputy Director is instrumental in leading and managing within the Environment and Business directorate and has responsibility for a team around 60 staff and a budget of approximately £5.5m. You’ll also be counted on to develop advice and guidance for our staff across the country. We will continue to build close relationships with our customers to help them comply with environmental regulations, so this role is not just about evidencing your expertise of regulatory protocols and combating illegal activity in the sector. It will also be about bringing an approach that reaches out and develops strong working partnerships externally and internally, will seek to lead and build a rapport with staff that motivates and also inspires especially at times of change and transformation.

About you

You will have a background in regulatory environments similar to ours, but not necessarily in waste and potentially could come from either the public or private sector. You’ll also certainly be able to demonstrate the kind of leadership qualities and experience that will make you credible from day one; a leader who has a talent for communicating and influencing new ways of working, driving performance and effective delivery.

If you have the regulatory expertise and the collaborative leadership style we are looking for and want to utilise these skills at a national level, we’d be pleased to hear from you.
