Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is seeking a new Assistant Director to lead its children’s social work service, ensuring that our childrenget the support they need and can reach their maximum potential. This is a role directed specifically at safeguarding and Looked After Children, presenting as a real opportunity to focus on delivering the best possible service to the most vulnerable children within our Borough, without the distractions of wider management responsibility.

Although we have significant strengths in children’s services, we are also aware that we need to improve the consistency of practice in children’s social care and more effectively manage the numbers of looked after children and those subject to a child protection plan.

This means understanding and managing risk more effectively, investing in prevention and early help, as well as working more closely and effectively with our partners and stakeholders.

We are looking for candidates with a strong track record and senior management experience in children’s social care, a genuinely corporate approach, excellent partnerships skills and, of course, the determination to improve the life chances of our children and young people.

At Redcar and Cleveland, we operate in an environment of excellent partnerships, exciting regeneration, and a strong one-team approach across the authority.

We are also part of the new Tees Valley Combined Authority, which is at the forefront of the devolution agenda.

We care passionately about the people we serve in Redcar and Cleveland and about our colleagues. We celebrate success, we challenge and support each other and we value our people.

We can also offer great personal development opportunities - for more information please visit and for a confidential discussion contact our advising consultant at GatenbySanderson, Luke Judd (0113 205 6077).

Closing date: Friday 13 October 2017.
