Presently based in the heart of Suffolk, our two councils have now been working closely together for about 5 years, transforming the way we do things, under a single management team. Now with a new Chief Executive in place, we are about to move into the heart of Ipswich to Endeavour House, with great access to Ipswich centre, the mainline railway station and waterfront.
Suffolk is going places as it plans to deliver significant new housing and economic growth over the next 25 years, with significant new infrastructure and key projects proposed across the county.
Babergh and Mid Suffolk Councils are crucial to the delivery of Suffolk's growth plans and will be expected to deliver about a third of all growth being planned for in the county, so these are truly exciting times to be working in the county and with our councils.
To help prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead, we have just prepared a new Joint Local Plan for public consultation which contains proposals and policies to help manage and deliver the growth we need to plan for in a sustainable way. In addition, our impending office move will give us the ability to work 'hand in glove' with our colleagues at Suffolk County Council helping to improve our delivery of new development we are planning for.
We have also embarked on a programme of 'service transformation' over the past year which has included putting a new planning application system in place, embedding more efficient working practices, creating better links to our customers through a new client-side panel, implementing an improved pre-application service and agreeing a re-shaped management team, with experienced leadership and additional resources to lead our development management service going forward.
The new Area Manager roles we have created are to be part of that new management team and will have both a key professional role and a key role in helping to manage the wider development management service as well as an area team. Educated to degree level, with membership of the RTPI, we are looking for you to have sound and demonstrable experience dealing with planning applications in either a public sector development management team and / or a private sector planning consultancy.
You should also have both a professional and positive approach which gives confidence to customers, politicians and colleagues and helps to enhance the reputation of the service, in line with the aspirations of the councils, our customers and the Development Management Service Plan.
