Business Durham acts as the business gateway to Durham County Council, engaging with businesses to help them grow, attracting capital and inward investment to the County and managing a commercial property estate including the regions only science park, NETPark.  We are developing an innovative approach to supporting the local economy that is focused on attracting and supporting companies to grow and flourish. 

As the Council’s business support organisation playing a key role in economic development and the first point of contact for businesses operating in County Durham, we promote enterprise and business start-ups within the County, working closely with partners to raise aspirations and encourage an enterprise culture. We also lead on inward investment where we have secured some notable successes in recent years. 

We have recently created a £20m venture capital fund which will help businesses to grow and create thousands of jobs.  Our ambition is to go further and ensure we innovate where necessary to deliver against our key priority of an improved economy.

Following the departure of our highly-regarded Managing Director we are now seeking someone who has the credibility to lead our 50 plus strong team, helping the County’s economy to grow and significantly contributing to wider county council and partners economic development policy, strategy and projects.

You’ll have a proven record of success in senior level general or commercial management, an appreciation for the political and management framework of local government and the ability to navigate the public/private sector interface.  You will also be comfortable personally driving forward change and being innovative and determined to achieve results.

You’ll exhibit excellent communication skills, leading, shaping and developing multi-agency strategic partnerships and developing business opportunities for the local economy.
