Corporate Director Finance and Governance
BIRMINGHAM IS CHANGING • BE PART OF THE CHANGE
Birmingham City Council’s Corporate Director Finance and Governance must be one of the most exciting Finance roles in the public sector, in an organisation which has had its struggles in recent years but remains one of most entrepreneurial and exciting places to work in local government.
Outside London the city is the youngest and most diverse in Europe – it is the leading city in the West Midlands working collaboratively with its neighbours in the combined authority and with the regional mayor.
Its financial challenges are the same as others in local government but on a significantly larger scale and in an environment with huge challenges and massive opportunities.
Your ability to support the Leader of the Council and the whole Council’s elected members in financial strategy will be key to the future of the authority, and we need anyone who takes this role to be a consummate corporate player concentrating on building a strong financial base through a strong financially aware corporate team.
Your ambition to make Birmingham one of the leading councils in the country in terms of financial strategy and innovation will be key, as will your focus and resilience in delivering continuous improvement.
Your key responsibilities are those you might anticipate but one of the interesting parts of the role, as part of the Council’s focus on financial innovation, is the exceptional network of companies which have helped build Birmingham’s approach to regeneration and commercialisation.
We have also signalled in your title your key role in the corporate governance of the authority, working closely with the Chief Executive on that and all the major issues facing the Council.
