Cheshire West and Chester is a modern, award winning, innovative and ambitious authority, working towards a vision of a thriving Borough for individuals and communities alike, and playing a leading role in the wider region. The Borough is diverse in terms of its landscape, communities and economy. As one of the largest unitary authorities in the North West of England it encompasses: the city of Chester, an internationally important historic city, and a global centre for financial services; a powerful manufacturing base; cutting edge centres of excellence for science and innovation; extensive swathes of countryside; and attractive market towns and villages; alongside concentrated areas of urban deprivation. We face many challenges but have some fantastic assets and opportunities to build on.

We are currently looking for a strategic and transformational leader to join the council’s senior leadership team as Director of Place Strategy. This is a pivotal role, responsible for the delivery of the council’s ambitious economic growth and cultural programmes, working in collaboration with strategic partners at local and national level, and neighbouring authorities across the North West, North Wales and the Midlands. The role holder will be heavily involved in progressing our plans for devolved powers for Cheshire/Warrington and ensuring that our voice is heard across the North.

Marrying sound commercial acumen with a powerful commitment to securing the best possible outcomes for our residents and businesses, the council prides itself on its can do culture. We have a strong track record of working with partners in the public and private sector to deliver innovative and step changing regeneration projects, including: major town centre renewal; strategic employment sites; an extensive housing programme; best in class culture and leisure facilities, and really effective solutions to tackle worklessness and poverty. Harnessing the value of our own land and assets, we are currently progressing one of the largest city centre regeneration schemes in the county, the multi-million pound Northgate development in Chester, as well as leading an ambitious one Public Estate Programme, and establishing an extensive portfolio of new homes.

The role holder will have responsibility for a portfolio of complementary services, including economic growth, culture and heritage, planning and strategic transport, skills and learning, and housing, together with a client management of leisure provision through the council’s arm’s length company, Brio Leisure.

This is an exciting and challenging role and we are looking for candidates with a significant track record, and appetite for delivering multiple initiatives that make a real impact on quality of life in the Borough and beyond.

If you have the experience, vision and ambition to be successful please see or contact our advising consultants Luke Judd (0113 205 6077) or Philip Emms (0113 205 6078).

Closing date: 30th June 2017.
