This post of Chief Accountant is a key role and we are looking for an exceptional and experienced qualified accountant who will contribute to delivering the Mayor’s Vision of a Fairer, Safer, Stronger Middlesbrough. As Chief Accountant you will have responsibility for leading the newly forming Financial Governance Accountancy function, which will include the provision of high quality strategic financial advice and information to Members and officers of the Council.
You will lead on coordinating and delivering the statement of accounts, treasury management and the corporate financial processes of the Council. As lead officer you will ensure the accountancy function is fit for purpose and delivers a high level of good financial governance. You will ensure the statement of accounts complies with the necessary CIPFA guidelines and complies with IFRS standards. Your role will require the provision of financial advice and financial support across all Council directorates.
Middlesbrough Council has an ambitious vision set by the Mayor for the development of the area. Working within a newly formed Finance, Governance and Support Service directorate, the Financial Governance Accountancy function has a crucial role to play in enabling the delivery of that vision.
