We do like to be beside the seaside, but what Thanet would really like is a Head of Legal and Democratic services!

The Role

Thanet Council needs an experienced lawyer to manage our legal, committee services, electoral services and information governance teams. In addition you will be the council's principal legal adviser and Deputy Monitoring Officer. You'll be an experienced solicitor or a barrister who wants to spread their wings in a beautiful and fascinating part of the country and be part of an authority with big ambitions.

The Place

Thanet is in East Kent and includes the coastal towns of Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs and has more blue flag beaches and bays per mile than Cornwall. Thanet has excellent transport links, it's only 90 minutes by train to central London and only three hours via Eurostar from Margate to Paris! Whilst we have excellent shops in Thanet, we're also only an hour from the M25 and Bluewater, Britain's biggest shopping centre! Thanet is also becoming the centre of 'cool'. The District has real credentials as an artistic destination, and its appeal is growing, the Turner Contemporary gallery supported by Tracey Emin opened in 2011 and is the largest exhibition space in the south-east outside central London. The Libertines recently bought a hotel here to make a "creative residential hub" featuring a recording studio, bar, and of course hotel rooms, the band also support the Wheels and Fins festival in Joss Bay (one of the many festivals based in Thanet). The Isle of Thanet is also a historic landing place rich in heritage, entwined with remarkable architecture. Home to 27 conservation areas and inspiration for famous authors, architects and artists, fine Georgian, Regency and Victorian buildings can be found across the district, a legacy of the 18th Century seaside holiday boom. We have quaint seaside towns with cobbled streets, boutique shops, a picturesque Royal Harbour and Dreamland, the iconic amusement park, with a growing reputation as a live music venue. This all goes to make Thanet the greatest place you've never heard of!

The People

We're all very friendly and welcoming and would love you to come and help us on our journey.

The Money

In addition to the usual local government benefits, we offer a salary of GBP 63000 to GBP 71892 and a GBP 3000 annual car allowance.
