We have £200m of commercial investment already committed with ambitions to do more, our first commercial housing scheme nearing completion with a business plan for six further sites delivering over 1,000 homes, and a JV with private sector partners bringing forward 54 hectares of industrial land having invested over £15m in infrastructure. We also manage a £1bn portfolio from farms to offices and are about to start one of the biggest regeneration programmes for over 10 years. Did we mention we are also looking to move HQ, rationalise our council offices and are working closely with partners to revitalise our town and village centres?

The Role

At Durham County Council we are transforming the way we do business, putting property and land at the heart of the strategy and decisionmaking process. With over 1,000 buildings and 500 staff to lead, this is a new post for the authority and central to how we move forward. It brings together all our assets, land and property services to deliver outcomes that change lives and create opportunities.

We need someone who can lead this key service for us, someone able to turn vision into strategy, make things happen and deliver positive change for our communities whilst identifying those future commercial opportunities. It’s a big job, but then again, we are a big council with big aspirations, and we are facing the future with confidence.

We are therefore seeking exceptional candidates with a strong understanding of land and property from either a public or private sector perspective. You will have a strong customer focus, excellent partnership skills, and a highly commercial outlook. This is a great opportunity to work for one of the largest and most ambitious organisations in the North East and develop a new approach in order to benefit our residents and businesses.
