This is an exciting and demanding opportunity to join Newport City Council’s leadership team in a key Head of Service role.  Following several cycles of significant change in recent years, the Council’s Streetscene and City Services now requires a Head of Service who can provide resilient, transformational leadership whilst driving forward a high-performing, customer focused service culture. The role has responsibility for a varied portfolio which includes the Council’s Information Station, Contact Centre, and Streetscene Services, as well as being accountable for jointly delivering the Council’s wider corporate agenda.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic leader, who can provide strong direction and high levels of motivation to the Streetscene and City Services team.  You will be someone who can turn a challenge into an opportunity, continuously transforming operational service delivery to provide excellent, sustainable outcomes for the Council and our communities.

You will be adept at encouraging collaboration and buy-in, and will be able to influence those around you to achieve demonstrable results.  Both resilience and empathy are key characteristics required for this demanding but exciting position.

About us

Newport is an ambitious, growing University City situated on the River Usk in South Wales – acting as a gateway to Wales and England.  As a city it has much to offer – affordable homes, excellent road and rail connections and lots to do: shopping, leisure, walking, cycling – Newport is a fantastic place to live, work and visit.

As a council, we want to nurture talent and the skills potential of our teams to deliver excellent services and achieve the very best outcomes for the communities of Newport.   Being part of a change focused culture and collaborative leadership team, you will have the scope to make a real difference in a supportive, but dynamic environment.
