If you’re a collaborative thinker able to lead a large organisation through a continuing programme of improvement, then we’ve got just the role for you. In April 2017, Birmingham City Council Children’s Services are being moved into a Trust. Initially, this will be run as a ‘Shadow Trust’ while you put the new organisation in place, making it an autonomous organisation by April 2018 – accelerating the pace of improvement.

What this change will mean is better and more responsive services for the vulnerable children and young people of Birmingham, with more efficient use of resources. As such, you will build on the good foundations that have already been put in place to continue shaping the service. Quite simply, we need someone who can lead by example and work with Birmingham City Council to create a strong, reliable service, one that maintains a steady rate of progress.

As you join Birmingham Children’s Trust, the Board will be being formed, with Andrew Christie as the Chair. This Board will be there to provide you and your team with support and guidance. Forming a close bond with stakeholders in the Council, you will work collaboratively with external service providers including the police, schools and healthcare providers to ensure we’re always delivering the high performing services for vulnerable children.

Possessing strong leadership skills gained in a similar environment, you will utilise your extensive knowledge of children’s social care to oversee this critical period. With proven experience of seeing an organisation through a period of change over a length of time, you will have the staying power and commitment to ensure that changed provision is embedded. Your professionalism will prove inspirational to the team and the service as a whole. With outstanding knowledge of the regulatory and statutory framework which shapes local government and the public sector, you will be confident in managing a budget of almost £200m, delivering value for money and exploring new opportunities to generate income. The 1,500 staff will know you and have confidence in you. You will be committed to workforce development, and help deliver a sustainable future through good succession planning.

In order to make this children’s service as outstanding as it deserves and needs to be, we’re looking for a visionary who shares our commitment to making Birmingham Children’s Trust an employer of choice, and an organisation in which vulnerable children and their families have great confidence. Excellence doesn’t just happen overnight, but we know it is achievable. If you share our aspirations, and believe you have what we need, then get in touch today.
