Leadership Development Manager
Introduction from Ali Layne-Smith, Director of People & Organisation Development
Thank you for your interest in joining the People & Organisation Development directorate here at West Midlands Police (WMP).
I’ve recently joined WMP as I am excited by the unique opportunity of creating and delivering a people strategy that will enable the force to meet its goals for 2020 and beyond. We’ve made a start and there’s much more to do so we are looking for people with a range of specialist skills to augment our existing team of 400.
As an enabling function, our role is to provide support, guidance, development and a challenge to our employees and their leaders, so together we prevent crime, protect the public and help those in need. A focus on the wonderfully diverse West Midlands community we serve is at the heart of what we do and combined with our People Deal commitment to our employees and the Leadership Promise, outlining our expectations of leaders, the foundations are in place for the next stage in our transformation programme.
If you have the passion, drive, skills, experience, resilience, and character required we would be delighted to hear from you.
Director of People & Organisation Development
Be the force behind our people.
Here at West Midlands Police, we serve almost 2.8 million people – making us the second largest police force in England. We’re planning to radically overhaul all aspects of the business with WMP2020 - a modernisation plan that’ll change the way the force operates. As part of this, we’re bringing together our services to create the Learning and Organisation Development function. With expertise, commitment and dedication, you’ll thrive in this senior role and help to realise our ambitions.
In this role, you’ll lead on the development of leadership capability in our force. Designing key management and leadership development interventions, you’ll positively impact all levels of policing staff. As part of this, you’ll develop, implement and evaluate a wide range of frameworks – including coaching, psychometrics and 360-degree feedback. With a collaborative mindset, you’ll work with senior stakeholders and ensure that initiatives are linked up with wider aspects of the strategy. No day will ever be the same in this role and you will need to be comfortable in dealing with providers, but also delivering and facilitating yourself.
You’ll have experience of successfully evaluating and delivering leadership, talent management and performance interventions, in large organisations, possibly in a consultancy role. We’ll expect you to have second-to-none expertise in this area, and be able to influence key stakeholders with your knowledge and ability to make leadership development exciting and ‘real’. Ideally, you’ll also have a background in designing and delivering initiatives at a strategic level. This might be supported by a coaching qualification, and other relevant awards.
Closing date: Midnight Tuesday 14th March 2017.
